Adinkra symbols were created in Ghana, C ô te d’Ivoire and West Africa. They are used for decoration. On special occasions, each symbol has a special meaning and conveys traditional wisdom and value.
The Agan people in West Africa first created the adinkra symbol hundreds of years ago. It has changed over time, and the Asante people in Ghana still use these symbols today. These symbols are used to communicate and share their complex beliefs and meanings in a society without words.
Some adinkra symbols come from traditional stories and famous sayings, while others are more like a badge. The person wearing it shows his personality. For example, I am “brave” or “humble”. Even today, adinkra symbols are still widely used in carving, weaving and printing on traditional crafts and fabrics in Ghana.
