What is Zen? Many people only know that Zen, like pure land and esoteric Buddhism, is one of the eight sects of Buddhism. Buddhism originated in India and prevailed in China. After it was introduced into China in the Eastern Han Dynasty, it sparked with Chinese culture and became one of the three branches of Chinese culture, forming a Buddhist culture with Chinese characteristics.
The origin of Zen is a little different from other sects such as pure land. Most of the other sects were founded by some eminent monks based on Jinglun after Buddhism was introduced into China. Only Zen is a little different from Esoteric Buddhism. Let's not talk about Esoteric Buddhism. The origin of Zen is that at the Lingshan meeting, Sakyamuni picked flowers and kayah smiled.
